When I think of a writer who tells the story of the people, only one person comes to mind, Maya Angelou. Maya Angelou is truly an inspiring writer to many. Maya Angelou is not her full name Maya’s full name is Marguerite Annie Johnson Angelou, she prefers Maya for short. Maya Angelou was born on April 4, 1928 and passed on May 28, 2014. Angelou is an inspiration to many. Angelou portrayed many roles throughout her lifetime. Maya Angelou was an american author, actress, screenwriter, dancer, poet and civil rights activist, she did it all. Maya has written many poems and novels including her most famous piece “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.” Maya Angelou published the book “I know Why the Caged Bird Sings” in 1969. This particular piece is one of her most famous and moving pieces because it portrays the early years of Angelou’s life. In the seven- series novel Angelou speaks about how she dealt with racism and her personal experiences with it. Also, in the novel it touches on trauma in her early years of life. To add the novel touches on many more topics including the following The Civil Rights Movement, racism, the importance of family, and many more relatable topics to many young and old. This book has been an outlet for people going through very similar situations related to what Maya struggled with. This novel has been called “a symbolic character for every black girl growing up in America” due to the fact that Angelou has helped many out during tough hardships. This novel is one of the seven autobiographies Maya Angelou wrote throughout the course of her life. These seven novels focus on her entire life. “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” is the first novel focusing on her life up to seventeen years of age. Her novel was also nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in 1971, only three years after the novel was published. In Maya’s life not only did she experience, rape, racism, and many family issues, Maya overcame these hardships and wrote books, poems, and even starred in afew movies hoping to help out other who may be experiencing a similar situation. Maya was an active member of The Civil Rights Movement and was very good friends with Martin Luther King. Martin Luther King is a person of great recognition in today’s society, because he is known for his “I Have a Dream” speech. Martin Luther King was assassinated on Angelou’s birthday, April 4th. For many years on Angelou’s birthday, Maya would celebrate the life of Martin Luther King on her birthday to remember him. Maya Angelou is a world renowned author, actor, dancer, civil rights activist and so much more. Maya Angelou has definitely had a voice for people as she’s talked about topics most people are scared to talk about, and without Maya Angelou some may have never been able to overcome their personal hardships. Maya Angelou is truly an inspiration to many young and old.
